About Ross
Ross Sandlin is a bass instructor serving Atlanta and online students, specializing in helping beginner, adult beginner, and intermediate bass players develop strong musical foundations, groove, and creative independence. With over six years of teaching experience and more than a decade of professional performance work, Ross brings both real-world musicianship and structured educational methods to every lesson.
Ross previously served as Musical Director and Lead Teacher at Colorado AMP, a nonprofit after-school and summer music program, where he helped students develop performance skills, music literacy, and collaborative band experience. His professional background includes gospel worship bands, cocktail and private performances, studio sessions for composers, and collaborations with hip-hop and EDM producers, giving students exposure to a wide range of modern musical styles.
Drawing from studies in performance and composition at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, as well as mentorship experiences such as Victor Wooten’s Music and Nature Camp, Ross’s teaching emphasizes groove, diatonic harmony, musical analysis, and creativity. His approach focuses on helping students move beyond memorizing tabs to truly understanding how music works, enabling them to read chord charts, learn songs independently, write original ideas, and confidently perform in real musical settings.
Ross teaches jazz, world music, hip-hop, funk, and alternative R&B styles, and works especially well with adult hobbyists, serious students, and musicians seeking deeper musical understanding. His mission is simple: teach the fundamentals that empower students to play the music that lives within them.
